Guess Who?

Any Idea? No? Aww... It’s me, Ellen. You haven’t forgotten about me, have you....? Of course not. I’m too awesome of a friend for you to forget me that easily. And beside, my name is there along with email. Pointless, I know.
Nah, cross that part. This is the real important thing. Right now, right when I’m writing this email, I am sitting in a cafe with a humonguous rounded ancient building view outside. Yes, my friend. I’m in Rome. An that humonguous rounded ancient building thing I was referring is Colloseum. You know what it is, don’t you? It was the place used for gladiators fighting back in the time. Ah, historical building it is. I got a lot of wonderful shots of it, along with myself in the picture of course. For the proof that I’ve been here. I’m sure you know my antics well enough.
And about any events that happened recently.... It is nothing biggie, actually. But I supposed I should tell you this. I was visiting the Vesuvius Volcano—you know, the mountain which was featured in Donald Duck as Magica De Spell home? Yeah that is the one. And no, I was there not only because I’m obsessed with Donald Duck. Absoulutely not. Back to the story. I was hiking there with my tour friends and guide when a lady came out from a lonely old shack up the hills. She has jet black hair to her shoulder which seemed kind of unnatural and this dark aura around her. A crow was flying after her. I spontaneusly said,”Is that you, Magica De Spell?” with this ear-to-ear grin and happiness basically oozing from my face—the witnesses said(read: tour guide and friends). And I saw the lady raised her eyebrow and twitched in annoyance. Maybe it was not the first time anyone said it to her. My tour guide and friends guffawed at me and I only realized what I just said minutes later. Embarrasing, I know.
So far so good. It was relaxing and exciting being here. I don’t have to think about any work, but soon enough this 2-weeks holiday will end. Well, which means I have to enjoy it to the fullest. Perhaps I could write to you again three days from now.
Love,
Ellen

Images of Indonesia-REWRITE

Images of Indonesia

The aim of this report is to present what is popular in Indonesia and people (my friends and family) opinion about them. I interviewed 5 of my friends and all the people in my family by person and phone. The question concerned movie, music, gadget, and public transportation.

Movie:
All the people I had interviewed answered differently. But mostly chose comedy, drama, and action as their favourite movie genre. Others answered romance, horror, and biography. Most of people I had asked, usually watch movie only few times a week for their entertainment. They all agreed that foreign movies are better than Indonesian because Indonesia had produced many movies with porn and horror genre which is rather pointless and doesn’t contain any useful morale. That’s why many of them are against the new tax policy which restrained the distribution of foreign movies in Indonesia.

Music:
All of my friends chose foreign music as their favourite music over Indonesian music. More than three-fourth like jazz and most of them like pop as their favourite music genre. Three-fourth always listens to the music when they have nothing to do in their free time. They agreed that listening to music could make people feel relaxed, which is why a quarter of people I had asked love to listen to music when they are studying.

Gadget:
The majority of people I had interviewed chose BlackBerry (cell phone) as their favourite gadget and the other few chose palmtop and iPad as theirs. The most useful facility of gadget for most of them is BlackBerry Messenger and music. They all agreed that they can’t ‘live’ without their gadget and technology. They also agreed that Indonesia has the potential to produce their own local gadget in the future.

Public Transportation:
All the people I had interviewed agreed that Indonesian Public Transportation facility is relatively bad. Most of them rarely used the public transportation and only a quarter used it (regularly or not). The majority chose Trans-Jakarta as their best choice of public transportation while the other chose bus. The positive of using public transportation is having a role to the decrement of global emission since there are less private cars around. On the other hand, the negative aspect of public transportation is the lack of comfort and privacy for the passenger.

This report shows that each people have different opinion of things. I also agree that Indonesia have to focus more on plot and morale to guarantee the success of movies in Indonesia and for the future of Indonesian morale; like Laskar Pelangi teach us that we need to do our best to make our dream come true, Merah Putih teach us to respect heroes for they have worked hard for our country sake, etc.  The most surprising aspect of this report for me is that all people I had interviewed can’t ‘live’ without gadget or technology. It shows how much people depend on technology nowadays.

English Assignment 2; Will there still be schools and teachers in the future?

Will there still be schools and teachers in the future?

Nowadays, there is this thing called e-Learning. It is a study method by learning on the internet.  As the world moving forward, technology also keep improving. We can’t really predict how good this system will be in the future. But I don’t think it will be enough to replace school and teachers.
I agree that internet will make things much more simple. We don’t have to spend time on travelling to school, listening boring lecture from teachers, and could get so much more and easier information.
On the other hand, if there’s no school to go, we can’t learn all things which are rather necessary for us in the future. We can’t learn how to socialize eye-by-eye, work together, to have friends, how to behave, to have second parents (teachers) and some other things that just can’t be learned by theory. For kids with working parents, meeting friends at school is a distraction for them; to have companion until their parents go home. With e-Learning, we could only interact with computer and by online, which makes us quite isolated. And I think, schools and teachers is just the right place and people to learn all of that.
To conclude, I think there will still be schools and teachers in the future. People should have known that it is necessary for us to have schools and teachers. It’s about how to practice what we have learned and put it in good use for our own and others benefit. And it is also necessary for us to socialize with others; after all we are a social creature.
